Rooted in Relationship: Our work with Indigenous Communities in British Columbia

At Hyve, we’re genuinely proud of the relationships we’ve built with Indigenous communities across British Columbia. These partnerships have not only contributed to the success of our projects, but have also been some of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences for our entire team.

From the outset, it’s clear these projects carry a significance that extends well beyond the physical structures being built. The care, pride, and commitment demonstrated by community members, leadership, and building committees creates a shared sense of purpose that influences every stage of the project. It shapes conversations, informs decisions, and helps guide the work from planning through completion.

Building within the community

One of the aspects we’re most proud of is our ability to source the majority of trades and labour locally, often as much as 85% of the workforce on a project. There is something incredibly powerful about a community helping build its own spaces. Local tradespeople, businesses, families, and neighbours contribute directly to facilities that will serve future generations. That level of participation brings a unique sense of ownership, accountability, and craftsmanship that is evident throughout the project.

Throughout our work, we’ve also gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of connection to place, community, and history. We have had the privilege of working alongside people who hold a profound respect for the land and for the relationships that shape it. These experiences continue to influence how we approach our work and how we strive to build lasting partnerships founded on trust, respect, and collaboration.

For Hyve, these relationships are not just part of our work; they’re part of who we are becoming as a company.

Learning through partnership

We look forward to continuing to build relationships with Indigenous communities throughout British Columbia as they pursue housing, infrastructure, and community development projects.

If your Nation or community is exploring a future project and is seeking a construction partner that values long-term relationships, local participation, and a collaborative approach grounded in respect, we would be honoured to connect and learn more about your vision.
